Our Lady Help of Christians was formally established in September 1980 by James Cardinal Hickey, who appointed Fr. Peter R. Alliata as our first pastor. Those early years were formative of a wonderful ecumenical spirit that still exists. Knowing that we were a community without a home, the local churches opened their doors and invited us to share their facilities. We celebrated our Saturday evening Mass at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for more than 10 years. The Peace Lutheran community presented us with a key to their front door for evening meetings, on a space available basis. We formally returned the keys to both churches in June 1990, when we completed construction of our church. Hopefully, we will never forget those years of wandering that formed and shaped us. In November 1987, Fr. Alliata was transferred and Fr. Eamon Dignan was appointed as the 2nd pastor. Construction of a church and education facilites became the highest priority for a rapidly growing community. The present structure of the sanctuary, classrooms, and social hall was constructed in three phases: the 1st phase was completed in May 1990, the 2nd (10 classrooms and offices) in time for our CCD program in the fall of 1999, and the final phase (social hall) in the spring of 2000. In June 2004, the church welcomed its 3rd pastor, Fr. Thomas Crowley. The current pastor is Fr. Alain Colliou, who arrived at Our Lady Help of Christians in September 2010.
