An excerpt from Fr. Alain's Weekly Column (July 9th, 2023):
..I am personally inviting you to join us on Sunday, August 6 at the 11:30 am Mass ....! WHY should you come? WHY should you invite your family and friends to come also? It is ALL ABOUT JOY! Below are some of the highlights we have planned for the August 6 Celebration:
1. 11:30 a.m. Mass will celebrate the top priority given by Father Martin to the EUCHARIST as the center of worshipping God as a community in communion with one another. An entire community, made up of different cultures being One in the Eucharist, ALL becoming ONE IN CHRIST, independently of different cultures---Intercultural Unity!
2. What will be especially Joyful about this 11:30 a.m. Mass?
A. Bishop Roy Campbell, a native son of Charles County, and first-ever African-American Bishop born in Charles County, will be the Presider and Homilist. A reminder to all of us of the largest community served by Father Martin (Baptisms, First Communions, Weddings) was African-American (including feed slaves and local tobacco farmers), together with Native Americans (parents and relatives of Father Robert Pittman).
B. This unique Memorial Mass, the exact 100th Anniversary (a Centennial), will pay special tribute to Father Martin’s legacy. It will include the world premiere of an “Offertory Meditation for Organ and Soprano”, and a brilliant “Sortie for Organ Solo”, newly composed by a young and talented French composer. The composer chose the English words of the Vocation Prayer (promoting the priesthood and Father Martin’s intercession) for The Lyrics of Meditation. The current organist of St. Matthew’s Cathedral has agreed to join us for this world premiere!
